Why Ecoshelter

The last few years have seen an increase in natural disasters, emergencies, conflict, climate change, drought and famine with millions of refugees left without a home.

The Tsunami of Boxing Day 2004, the earthquakes in Pakistan and Afghanistan in 2005, the hurricanes in Central America, the Caribbean and the USA and the wars and humanitarian crises in Africa all highlight the growing need for a range of sustainable living solutions to offer.

For such reasons and others, more than 35 million people flee their homes every year.

Many millions more have inadequate shelter due to poverty and political unrest.

Ecoshelter is a new collaboration between

• international aid agencies

• some of the world’s best eco designers and sustainable builders

• dynamic social enterprises and

• community-interested, philanthropic and/or socially responsible investment
