The Waveform Project (Family Gathering)
Family Gathering, the organisers of award-winning transformational, sustainable & socially responsible events, have yet again made Ecoshelter their supported charity!
Earlier this year, Ecoshelter was supported by The Sunrise Celebration, the UK's most sustainable festival and the most socially responsible festival (UK Festival Awards 2006).
Now, they have made Ecoshelter the supported charity of The Waveform Project, the UK's first green dance music festival to be held in the picturesque grounds of Powderham Castle on the River Exe in Devon (14th - 16th September).
The event is part of the global Earthdance Festival, which last year involved 340 locations in 57 countries, uniting dance fans with a universal prayer for peace (see below).
Live acts at Waveform include System7, Eat Static, Mancini and Banco de Gaia...

“Ecoshelter is delighted to be supported by Family Gathering and The Waveform Project as their supported charity as part of The Earthdance Festival,” said Gareth Strangemore-Jones, CEO of Ecoshelter.
“Waveform and their sister event, The Sunrise Celebration, are leading the way as far as sustainable events are concerned.
They’re also damn good festivals!” he added.
The Waveform main stage is dedicated to taking you on a journey through the very best in dance music of all genres. Featuring a mix of festival favourites and astounding acts who are playing for the first time in this country, Waveform will bring you dub, breaks, psy-trance, drum & bass and world groove played live and close up. We will also be featuring some really great DJ’s from around the world to keep everything flowing and grooving.
There will be collaborations between different artists and something special for the culmination of the Earthdance Celebration at Midnight on Saturday. Keep checking back as we announce more of the line up and to find out more about some of the acts you know and love and others you may not have heard about…yet!
BANCO DE GAIA - Inspired to enter the field of electronic music by Britain's acid house explosion of the late '80s, Toby Marks took quite a different spin on electronica with his recordings as Banco de Gaia, introducing elements of Eastern and Arabic Music, samplingsimilarly exotic sources, and tying the whole to ambient-dub rhythms. Marks began releasing cassette-only albums in the early '90s, distributed through a network of clubs and artists known as Planet Dog. When Planet Dog became a record label as well (later the home of Eat Static and Timeshard), Banco de Gaia debuted on disc with the Desert Wind EP, released in November 1993.
Early the following year, Marks released his first album, Maya. For 1995's Last Train to Lhasa, Marks concerned himself with the plight of occupied Tibet. The following year brought a rare concert recording, Live at Glastonbury, with Big Men Cry appearing in 1997, followed by The Magical Sounds of Banco de Gaia two years later. In late 2000, Marks returned with Igizeh through Six Degrees Records, a label with which he decided to stay for 2004's You Are Here and 2006's Farewell Ferengistan.
System 7 is the dancefloor project of Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy.
Their style hovers between trance, techno and progressive house with a unique spacey character that is deeply psychedelic withoutbeing typical psy-trance -and the added element of Steve's highlyspecialised techno guitar. This all blends together in a powerful andcaptivating live sound that can be safely relied upon to send festivalaudiences into dancefloor delirium – and is perfectly captured on their “Live Transmissions” CD.
OOOD (aka. Out Of Our Depth) were voted in a recent poll on psy-forum.co.uk as one of the top live acts in the UK, sharing their place with Ott and Eat Static. Colin (an Organic Records label DJ) has been Djing extensively, playing sets consisting mostly of his own projects and collaborations.
In addition, Steve, Ryo, and Rama - the other 3 core members of the collective - are all also available for DJ sets. Whilst they are more than capable of rocking any main room or chillout for a short two hours, they are noted for specialising in the extended 'journey' type sets currently in such short supply, as shown by their recent residency at Tribe Of Frog in Bristol.
